Louise is a 1979 - 30 foot C&C that was built in either Hamburg or Kiel, Germany. Louise's homeport is in Makkum, an ancient harbour village at the north of the IJsselmeer in the northern part of the Netherlands.
The IJsselmeer (IJssellake) is a former inland sea which was dammed in the 1930's and measures 35 by 20 miles. The lake empties into the Waddensea, an undeep arm of the North Sea. There are several islands in this sea which are mainly and, for Europe uniquely, nature preservation areas for seals and birds.
